"Healthy Smiles" Coordinator Position

NunatuKavut, Labrador-Grenfell Regional Health Authority, and researchers at Dalhousie University and Memorial University of Newfoundland have received funding to conduct a three-year research study about improving the oral health of NunatuKavut youth in southeastern Labrador.
We are seeking applications to hire a "Healthy Smiles" Coordinator to serve as an important link between NunatuKavut community members, health care providers (dentists, nurses, dieticians), and the research team.

SUMMARY:
The co-ordinator position will serve as a single point of contact for community members who live in the southeastern communities of Labrador and are in need of dental care.
This is a part-time (18.5 hours per week), three-year position in partnership with the NunatuKavut's Health and Social Sector. The starting date is February 15th, 2012.
The position will be located on the southeast coast of Labrador (any community between Cartwright and Lodge Bay).

DUTIES:
- Assist in coordination of research activities: (1) collecting oral health data
- Talking with community members (care-givers and children) about oral health services and developing policy recommendations to improve oral health promotion and oral health care service delivery.
- Assist parents/guardians to understand their child's dental care needs, treatment options, and available resources.
- Coordinate referrals and appointments for consultations and dental care services.
- Maintain records on the use of services of the coordinator.
- Document and record the issues and barriers that arise in accessing dental care.
- Coordinate and attend story-based research activities, assist with health intervention design, and policy-making workshops in the communities.
- Coordinate and attend a knowledge-sharing community meeting.
- Participate in a project team wrap-up meeting.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Successfully completed post-secondary education (Diploma or Degree).
Leadership, organizational, written and verbal communication, and excellent interpersonal skills.
Self-motivated and able to work independently, as well as a member of a team.
Able to meet deadlines and willing to work flexible hours.
Knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office programs.
Familiarity using digital technologies (i.e., digital cameras, digital voice recorders, and
multimedia software) and social networks (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, etc.).
Must have own transportation, vehicle insurance, and willingness to travel extensively to the individual communities on the southeast coast and Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL.
Only those selected for an interview will be contacted. Salary will be $20 per hour plus benefits and vacation pay. The coordinator will work from a home office and be provided with a basic PC laptop with internet/wireless capability, printer, and a monthly fixed stipend to offset phone/fax/internet connection (including long distance charges) costs. Travel costs will be reimbursed at appropriate travel rates.
