President Montague presenting a cheque to Donnie Sampson to purchase a striker stretcher for the Cartwright Hospital
(larger version)
Labrador Metis Nation President, Chris Montague, donates 30 per cent of his annual salary to Labrador Metis Nation members in need of emergency medical assistance. Since being elected President in July 2005, Chris has contributed about $60,000 to this fund, and has aided hundreds of members with non-insured medical expenses.
In addition to assisting individual members, Mr. Montague has given contributions to various causes. Recently he made a $5,000.00 contribution to the Labrador Grenfell Mission to purchase a Striker Stretcher for Cartwright. He has donated in excess of $2,000.00 to Liz's Walk, and routinely contributes to medical causes.
Mr. Montague sees the issue of non-insured medical expenses as being of the highest importance. He hopes that the federal and provincial governments will follow his example and address the serious medical needs of Inuit descendants of South Central Labrador.
