More On Our Research
From our research, we hope to establish where Labrador Woodland Caribou and Labrador Wolverine have lived in the past, and the areas that they currently inhabit in Labrador. And with respect to Woodland Caribou, we hope to work with both the public and government to assist in their recovery, so that one day they will no longer need protection and will be able to withstand conservation minded hunting. Allowing LMN members the opportunity to once again hunt Woodland Caribou as their ancestors did.

With Labrador Wolverine, our immediate research objective is to find out if there is still a breeding population left in Labrador. In order to do this, we are attempting to gather DNA samples from a series of Wolverine posts that we deploy from January – March each year. Theses DNA samples can be obtained from hair, urine, or feces, and can be used to determine the species of the animal, its sex, and the population of Wolverine that the animal originated from.

We've also been speaking with Metis land users, hunters and trappers, in order to gather any information that they might have to offer on current or historical observations of Woodland Caribou and Wolverine. In an effort to collect such data, we have created a Species At Risk Communication Form to assist in the process. Please take the time to complete this form if you have encountered Wolverine or Woodland Caribou or their tracks, or if you have a story regarding a past encounter with either of these animals.
